LOS LÍQUENES DEL PÁRAMO - Pquyquy

Parque Nacional Natural Chingaza, Colombia
2025–2026

Los Líquenes del Páramo is a series of five photographs made in the high-altitude páramo of Chingaza, in the Colombian Andes — a 76,600-hectare national park whose name in the Muisca language means "mountain range of the god of night." At over 3,800 meters above sea level, Alexa photographed the saxicolous lichens of the páramo — organisms that are not a single life form but a symbiosis, fungus and algae bound together, colonizing bare rock over millions of years, converting what is solid into something permeable.

I photograph them without distance: close, flat, large. The images ask the viewer to lose themselves in a surface before understanding what they are looking at. That gap — between abstraction and fact — is where the series lives.
