"About the Lack of Light in Berlin"
One of the hardest things for me to adapt to when I moved to Berlin was the lack of sunlight. I decided to move at the beginning of fall to this grey city. For my luck, October was a sunny month, but I certainly did not know what I was getting into.
In November, I traveled to London and when I came back at the beginning of December, I found myself in another town. It was dark, grey, static, and frozen. The city was somehow emptier, more silent, and the energy just felt different—kind of off for me, a Colombian woman from the North Caribbean.
In light of the darkness of the city, I found myself in a mental state I hadn’t experienced before. In Berlin, the light is gloomy, diffused, and grey during the only six hours it sparks in the winter. No interesting shadows, no mood or energy - I found after three consecutive months
These photos are my comeback to Berlin in the summer. When the city is lit, shines, the energy spreads, the Berliners are out.
They capture the lights, the shadows of the trees reflecting on the architecture of the city, reflections, and other expressions of light merely interacting with the architecture.
Those things I missed in the winter.
Those things of the Berlin summer.
